“On the third day of Christmas a foodie gave to me, Wine Baked Fruit....”

....Beef Burgundy...”

.....and a French Bird braised in Red Win”

On today’s menu we have CREAMY WINE BAKED APPLES. This dessert is everything and more. It’s sweet, it’s sour, it’s creamy and it has spicy notes from the cinnamon. All the things you need in a dessert.

For this dessert I used the Nederburg Sauvignon Blanc wine and it was perfect especially when paired with the white grape juice and the creamy caramel. This definitely has to be one of my favorite desserts and it’s so easy to make. The Sauvignon Blanc has a tropical fruit concentration and herbaceous flavors which, if you ask me, are perfect perfect perfect for this dessert.

INGREDIENTS

  • White wine

  • White Grape Juice

  • Sugar

  • Raisins

  • Unsalted Butter

  • Cinnamon

  • Apples

  • Fresh cream

Measurements

  • 1⁄2 cup white wine

  • 1⁄4 cup apple juice

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1⁄3 cup raisins

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1⁄4 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/3 fresh cream

  • Apples (4)

These measurements are simply a guide, you can adjust the quantity if you like.

COOKING & PREPARATION

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C

  2. Melt your sugar and butter on medium heat to make your caramel sauce.

  3. Once your sugar has melted, add your cream and stir for about a minute.

  4. Remove from the stove, while the caramel is still hot add your wine and juice, continue to stir. The sauce should not be too thick because it will be thickened in the oven. Set aside

  5. Wash and peel your apples, or not it’s really up to you.

  6. Use a traditional vegetable peeler to core the apples, coring apples simply means making a hole in the middle of the apple by removing the seeds.

  7. Try not to make the hole go all the way through because you want some of your filling to settle in the middle of your Apple.

  8. Place your apples in an oven safe dish and pour your creamy white wine mixture over your apples.

  9. Sprinkle your raisins and cinnamon over the apples and the caramel sauce.

  10. Bake for about 60-80 minutes or until your apples are tender.

  11. Sprinkle a crumb over the apples if you like and serve with vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy!
